It is absolutely vital that such rich heritage - the pride of the people of Eivissa - should maintain all its splendour. The fortified city of Dalt Vila, the Phoenician site of Sa Caleta, the Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins and the Natural Reserve of Ses Salines are the four assets that were given World Heritage status by UNESCO and these represent the living memory of a set of islands that face the future with optimism and a sense of calm in knowing that their natural and cultural values are acknowledged worldwide. Seen from this perspective, Eivissa enthusiastically accepts the challenge of spreading and preserving the essence of its heritage to and for the rest of the world, and it takes on the commitment that goes hand in hand with this. It was absolutely essential that an institution be created to promote, coordinate and finance the different projects of managing the World Heritage Assets. It was for this purpose that the Eivissa World Heritage Site Consortium was set up, the objectives of which are as follows: 1. To promote and finance the performance of works, services and facilities in general, as well as building and creating suitable means of transport and infrastructure related to the World Heritage declaration. 2. To promote the co-ordination of investments that are planned by public authorities in order to provide the works, services and facilities described above. 3. To promote cultural initiatives and projects aimed at preserving the historic heritage sites.
